Drug tests don't guarantee safety. They don't prevent accidents because they don't address the root problems that lead to substance abuse. The only effective way to select workers is to evaluate their performance on the job. If the negative effects of drug use beings to show in the worker's performance, the employer has a number of options for dealing with it.
