In this essay the aim is to show how the western has changed over time, even within the same directors work. The western is a classic Hollywood genre which was highly popular in the 1950's and 60's. Some things in the genre have not developed however, for example the appearance of character has largely stayed the same- mainly because you can't change history, also the setting has not changed over time- this is because westerns are defined by there setting and if it was changed it would no longer be considered a western but instead a drama for example.
