To a great extent did the Treaty of Versailles guarantee that the peace in Europe after the First World War would be short-term. It's unfair and vengeful articles only sparked further feelings of revenge in the German and Italian people. It gave the Germans punishments that were impossible to fulfil. …and more money. This lead to Hyperinflation and complete economic downfall in Germany. The extremist parties played upon the awful conditions that the German people were living in, as they did with their feelings of revenge and humiliation, by promising food, jobs and freedom. It was these policies that saw the Nazi party rise to the dominant party in the Weimar Republic in January, 1933 and then become a dictatorship in March of the same year.
