The discussion of the nude in the Greek culture and our perceptions of the nude in today's world

The nude body is an interesting subject that most people feel uncomfortable talking about. In our culture, nudity is related to shame and indignity, going all the way back to the beginning of history; "Adam and Eve, having lost their innocence, covered themselves to hide their nakedness" (reader 247). …even though the nude body can be seen as artwork, it brings up great controversy. The Greeks held a great deal of respect for the male nude as they glorified it in almost all of their artwork. In most cases, the subject was young and muscular, portraying the Greek ideal. In today's society, the nude figure is no longer glorified and praised, but used to produce money, being found anywhere from magazines to network television.
