Plot Summary: The story begins with a description of Billy Buck, the ranch-hand on the Tiflin ranch in northern California, and a typical routine. The story made you sad for Jody when his pony died, sorrowful for Billy Buck for the feeling of letting someone so young as Jody down, happy for Jody when he was allowed another horse, embarrassed for Carl when Grandfather overheard this speaking of him, and upset for Grandfather when he said he would tell more stories unless asked.
