The Halifax Explosion.

The words on the Halifax Herald front page on Friday, December 7, 1917 read, "Halifax wrecked! More than one thousand are killed in this city, many thousands are injured and homeless!" This was describing what the world would later come to know as the 2nd largest, most violent, man-made explosion after the atomic bomb. … same year, 1917, voluntary enlistment in the war dropped significantly in number. As well, during this time it was the largest artificial explosion to-date. It made the rest of the world look at Canada in pity, as well as support, for everyone felt the result of Total war. Total war is war that affects both the soldiers, and civilians. With these justifications, World War One was indeed Total war in every sense of the word.
