It has been argued that youth unemployment explains the increasing suicide rate involving young people. How useful is this explanation?

Death by suicide is a complex and intense personal act, reflecting any number of emotional issues. Because of problems with official data, explanations that associate relationships between youth unemployment and suicide must be seen as inconclusive. Further objective study is required to increase our understanding of the problems involved in explaining an increase in youth suicide, if such an association with unemployment can be argued, or called useful.
