Is it better for a small country to join militaristic organizations?

Huge countries formed various treaties among themselves to feel more secured, but what should small countries such as Lithuania do in such circumstances. …A lot of new advanced technological equipment would be brought to the newly accepted country and culture, education and economy would prosper. If small country joins such a military organization it will greatly add to one big purpose of human kind - peace of whole world. To sum up I would say that it is better for a small country to join big military organization because mentioned benefits surpass the pitfalls of such an action.
