War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength. The slogans of the party help control the people of Oceania. Within these three sentences holds the key to Ingsoc's survival. Wherever a person may go, he would be bombarded by these slogans on billboards or from an anonymous voice yelling them through a telescreen. The people know these phrases by heart, but few really understand their underlying meanings. The secrets hidden in the slogans are …

…society based on these slogans of control. All three of these mottos manipulate the citizens and create a false sense of reality. Yet, the secrets within the slogans would inevitably destroy the power of Ingsoc and give rise to power for the people through freedom. Ideally, freedom is utopia for all societies, yet we see similarities in our present time to each of the control mechanisms of Ingsoc. So, is 1984 the mirror to our society?
