French and Indian War
The victory of the English in the French and Indian War initiated a series of actions that eventually
caused the American Revolution. These actions consisted of England not allowing the colonists to move
westward, starting to heavily enforce the Navigation Laws, and issuing new laws to pay the war debt. After the

colonies. The excessive acts of mercantilism were belittling to the colonists. They felt as though they were being
used and were never going to be rewarded. Benjamin Franklin described very well their feelings by writing, "We
have an old mother that peevish is grown; she snubs us like children that scarce walk alone; she forgets we're
grown up and have sense of our own" (p. 123). These feelings drove the colonists to their independence.
