Since before the founding of America, whites have considered themselves to be superior to blacks. After the Civil War, blacks were no longer kept as slave, but they still did not receive equal treatment or respect as whites. In the mid 1900's, the Civil Rights Movement fought for true liberty, the fullest intent of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and ultimately succeeded in securing equality through demonstrations, influential leaders and court rulings. …Rights Movement get underway, and led the way for other cases of racial discrimination. The height of the Civil Rights Movement lasted many years and accomplished incredible steps toward equality, but endured tragedies and hardships. Civil Rights have come a long way in order to establish equality and true liberty and still continue to do so, as it has not been entirely reached yet. But as President Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "We Shall Overcome."
