Canada has had a significant role in many foreign wars. Since the Second World War, Canada has become involved in the different wars for different reasons, and in different ways. In the War on Terrorism in Afghanistan Canada contributed what they could in the form of small groups of well trained snipers and Special Forces units, two of the only programs that remain adequately funded by the government. Most recently, in Iraq Canada did not participated in the "coalition of the willing" war which was not sanctioned by the United Nations, nor was it suitable for the specially trained snipers and Special Forces units.
