Mutagens include ionizing radiation, ultraviolet light, and certain chemicals or irritants referred to as carcinogens. Carcinogens are cancer-causing agents such as asbestos (fibers used in insulation), benzene (a liquid used in making detergents, plastics, and paints), and other industrial pollutants.
