…applies to everyone. Whoever the speaker and whoever the reader, the message remains the same and that is to never give up and never lose hope. Whether Langston Hughes was talking to African-Americans or this really is a poem of advice from a mother to a son, one will never know. What makes the poem so unique and interesting is that everyone can relate to it and feel as though it is speaking to them.
