Who Opposed Richard III and Why? Richard can be called an unpopular king. He made a couple of wrong decisions during his reign, but it was his usurpation on Henry V that caused a lot of angst, especially with Buckingham and the Woodvilles. His favouritism towards the few, when it came to distributing offices and attained lands resulted on him having to rely on a small powerful clique of individuals.
