Because of his excessive pride he is blinded to the truth and thinks that luck is always by his side until he discovers the truth and exclaims "God. God. Is there a sorrow greater?" (222). As Choragos says here, "let none Presume on his good fortune until he find Life, at his death, a memory without pain" (228).
